Patients who require urgent medical advice or attention out of hours (after 6pm until 8am and at the weekends) must phone NHS24 on 111.

A nurse adviser will determine whether advice is all that is necessary or whether a face to face consultation with a doctor is required.  Patients in the Ellon area will be asked to go to either the David Anderson Building in Aberdeen (at Foresterhill) or to Peterhead Community Hospital where they will be seen.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

Home visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10am. The duty doctor will contact you in the first instance and if he/she feels that you need to be seen, he/she will arrange this - it may be you are visited by our Advanced Nurse or Urgent Care Practitioner.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound. A clinician will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the clinicians to schedule house calls

You can also be visited at home by a Community Nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a Health Visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Training Practice

Medical and nursing students shall periodically be present at the practice. We hope that you will support us in their mentoring and training, and assist students to develop in general practice learning.

Students - NHS Accredited Training Practice

Ellon Medical Group is certified as an NHS accredited Training Practice, offering undergraduate and postgraduate training. We are committed to helping grow the NHS workforce and encouraging more doctors in training to consider a career in General Practice.   Medical and nursing students shall periodically be present at the practice.  We hope that you will support us in their mentoring and training, and assist students to develop in general practice learning.

You will always be informed if you are being seen by a student, foundation year 2 doctor or GP trainee and may ask to see another member of staff if you are not comfortable with this. If you have any questions or concerns about the person who is seeing you, these can be addressed to Dr Maria or Dr Kidder.

GP trainees

These doctors have decided to undertake a specialty training programme to become a GP. They will already have worked for at least 2 years after medical school, and some have previously worked for longer periods in hospital specialties. They are supervised by the GPs in the practice. As part of their training, GP trainees may ask for feedback, or ask to record your consultation for their assessments. It will not affect your consultation if you decline.

Foundation Year 2 Doctors

These doctors are in their second year of work after completing medical school and have yet to start a specialty training pathway. They will be closely supervised by a doctor in the practice, or may be observing the consultation you have with another member of the team.

Medical Students

Usually, the students who are attached to the practice are year 4 or year 5 of medical school, from the University of Aberdeen. They will be closely supervised by a doctor in the practice, or may be observing the consultation you have with another member of the team.

We are grateful to our patients for their support as we train the next generation of GPs.
